Have you ever thought about what the substance is? Whatever substance is, that's
what we are looking and hoping for. Because God says "faith is the substance".
I believe we are looking for God, let me tell you why. Let's pretend that this is an equation and build it up from the beginning. God tells us that no man can come to the Father except through the Son. This means there has to be belief and then we learn that if we believe strongly enough, our belief grows into something called faith. James, the brother of the Lord, tells us that faith is what proves there is belief because it gets busy and does something, like the verse that says "faith without works is dead, but I'll show you my faith by my work and that means obedience. So what do we have now? It's like faith is a two-sided coin with one side saying faith and the other obedience, one is no good without the other because everyone knows you when you spend a coin it requires both sides, you can't just pay with one side. And now God tells us that faith is the substance of our hope and that takes us to God who tells us Himself that no one is good except the Father who is in heaven and it just so happens that HE is best known for His goodness. So there is the answer. I could ask why, but that is too easy. God is Good. And since God tells us that no one is good except Himself and we need to be like Him and we Want to be like Him we have the answer to what is in substance that we need, and God has told us how to do that. How? By seeking Him through study, followed by the action of doing what He asks of us. We can study from scripture to learn what He is like, get rid of what 's inside us that's not like him and we're on our way to possessing a tiny amount of 'goodness. The next step is always perseverance, but we'll talk about that another day. Don't give up between now and then (or ever) because then perseverance will be of no value to you.
